What do you do when you’re staring down the next big chapter of life — not with fear, but with a sense that there’s still one more trip to take?
That’s where The Buckety begins.
In this self-shot, self-scored, and self-narrated surf travel film, Australian surfer, filmmaker, and musician Nick Colbey takes us on a final lap — a global surf mission to scratch the last few itches before life shifts gear. Fatherhood is on the horizon, priorities are evolving, and as he steps into his 30s, Nick knows time moves differently now.
But before settling in, he sets out.
What unfolds is a raw and heartfelt bucket-list-style surf trip through some of the world’s most iconic and contrasting coastlines — the tropical power of Hawaii, the wild, untamed beauty of South Africa, and the cold, soul-rich waters of the UK and Ireland. It’s not just the waves that matter here — it’s the in-between moments. The injuries, the missed flights, the last-minute hires, the wayward van camps, and the kindness of strangers. The sort of chaos that only travel brings… and always makes for a good story.
We were proud to support the project from the start and stoked to see The Buckety already making its way across Australia — with backyard premieres, full-house screenings, and plenty of laughs (INSERT FUNNY STORY HINT…). Now it’s headed north, with UK and Europe tour dates rolling out over the coming weeks.
Shot by Jamie Hay, Kai Nitta, Matt Colbey, and Nick himself, and backed by an original soundtrack from TGT'S (The Guava Trees) and Nick, this is a film full of texture, humour, and heart. It’s less about high-performance edits and more about that gut-pull to hit the road one last time and what that really means when you know what’s waiting for you back home.
Simpel Presents “THE BUCKETY” a film by Nick Colbey.
